Importance of Vitamin Supplements

By jasica thomas at 2010-11-11 01:30:47
Vitamins are compounds found in certain food which are vital to our health and longevity. Our body needs them for growth, function, energy, tissue repair and waste removal. There are two categories of vitamins: water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins, such as vitamins B and C, need to be included in our daily diet as our body does not store any excess of these vitamins.

B Vitamins are very important to the human body. There are many components like your eyes, skin hair and muscles that are dependent on these vitamins. One thing to note about B vitamins is that they have a very high therapeutic value and very little if any side effects.

Vitamin supplement or supplements are very important for us because if we do not intake enough vitamins necessary for our bodies, the vitamin supplement will substitute for the shortage of the amount of vitamins in our system. Many times a good diet will be enough, but when it is not, the vitamin supplement will make sure that you intake enough vitamins for you to be healthy.

One of the main benefits from acquiring sufficient amounts of vitamins for the body is disease prevention. Multiple diseases can be attributed to the lack of a certain type of vitamin. A well known condition that is a result from Vitamin D deficiency is osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a result of insufficient calcium absorption within the body. Vitamin D is a key component to calcium absorption regulation.

First off, vitamin B is a complex of several vitamins. The B vitamin that meat-eaters dangle over the heads of vegetarians is that of vitamin B 12. Mainly because it happens to be abundant in meat, dairy and eggs- while plant foods are completely lacking of vitamin B 12. The chief importance of vitamin B 12 lies in the blood.

Vitamin C, also called ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble nutrient that is easily excreted from the body when not needed. Many uses for vitamin C have been proposed, but few have been conclusively demonstrated as being beneficial in scientific studies. About 90% of vitamin C in the average diet comes from fruits and vegetables.

The experience of morning sickness can contribute to a pregnant mother's loss of appetite as well. Moreover, physiological abnormalities especially involving allergies and intolerance to some substance (such as milk in lactose-intolerant women) results in a deficiency of one valuable nutrient or another.

You may be surprised how this simple vitamin can aid you in fat loss. The main benefit of B12 is that it increases your metabolism, which is vital for losing weight and burning fat. In addition, when many people diet, they feel fatigued. Vitamin B12 gives you extra energy to allow you to get in those workouts. It also helps to curb cravings for food as well.

There are many foods on the market that are excellent sources of vitamin C. Some examples of these foods include oranges, broccoli, various types of peppers, an assortment of greens, lemons and lemon juices, parsley, papaya, and cauliflower. There are many beverages that you can purchase that have high amounts of vitamin C in them as well.

Many people do not get all of the required vitamins that they need from their diet alone and this is why vitamins in nutrition is a very important aspect of overall health. You may want to do your own research and you may be pleasantly surprised at what you can learn about each vitamin and how they play a part in the body.

When we have too little vitamin D in our system it triggers the release of a hormone called the parathyroid hormone (PTH). Which then causes a condition called bone resorption where the bone tissue breaks down and gets absorbed back into the body causing the bones to become weak.
